Cat sitting in Hilton

Hilton is the southernmost village on my round — a steady cycle south from Repton, roughly 2.1 miles, mostly on quiet lanes off the A50.

Hilton is a proper residential village rather than a row of new builds: sandstone cottages around the old centre, newer estates off Main Street and the lanes down to the fields. It's a quiet place, which is exactly what cats tend to like.

The village sits between the A50 and the open country toward the Trent, so the route in is flat and traffic-free once you turn off the main road. I tend to plan Hilton visits for early or late in the day to avoid the A50 entirely.

Around Hilton

The village centre

The old cross and St Mary's Church are easy reference points if you're giving me directions — most of the houses in Hilton are a short walk from the centre.

Main Street and the newer estates

From the older cottages near the church to the streets off Main Street and the lanes toward the fields — I cover the lot.

Getting there

Cycle south from Repton along the lanes to Hilton. If you're on one of the newer estates away from the centre, allow a couple of extra minutes — I'll still be on time, but it's the longest leg of the round.

Ideal for

  • Homes on Main Street, the streets around St Mary's, and the newer estates off the village
  • Cats that like a calm visitor and a quiet house
  • Repeat visits — once we're in a routine, I can usually tie Hilton into a Repton or Newton Solney run
